RULES FOR RAID SATURDAY 19TH APRIL 2008
1. Speed parameters for class 1 are min 7 kms per hour minimum 14 kms maximum and for class 2 min. 6 kms per hour min. and 12 kms max. If these parameters are broken you will not qualify for rosettes etc. (in class 2 the vets MAY exercise their discretion).
2. You must present your horse to the vet for first vetting as near the time given to you as poss. Your start time will be 30 mins after vetting. On completion of your ride you MUST present to the vet within 30 mins of your finishing time. (It will not be in your interest to present earlier than 30 mins as in this time your horses pulse will be dropping and the lower the pulse the better your result.)
3. There will be a starter/timekeeper who will tell you your official start time as you leave - check this against your own watch. On finishing you will be given your official finish time and you use this to calculate your final vetting time.
4. In class 1, two gradings will be awarded (1 and 2), and completion rosettes If you are awarded a grade you will also receive a completion rosette. The grades will be based on your average speed and your horses final pulse. (Your horses pulse MUST be 64 or under at the final vetting or you will not qualify for an award or completion rosette - again in Class 2 the vets MAY exercise their discretion.) For instance a speed of 11 km per hour but with a finishing pulse of 60 would give you a completion but if your pulse was 45 or lower you would achieve a Grade 1. Somewhere in the middle would give you a Grade 2.
5. These rules are based on generally accepted endurance rules in Europe but they have been simplified to give people what is hoped will be an enjoyable introduction to the sport. Please feel free to phone or e mail for any clarification or help. If there is enough interest and people would like, a meeting will be arranged to attempt to answer any questions people may have.
6. Horses to be min 5 yrs old (Class 1) and 4 yrs (Class 2).
7. Hard/safety riding helmets must be worn.
8. Please ensure you have adequate insurance cover as the organizers cannot be held responsible. Riders and horses compete at their own risk although every effort will be made to ensure competitors and horses safety.
